Why did Dr Pepper merge with 7 Up?

It was created by the merger of Dr Pepper, Inc. and The 7 Up Company on May 19, 1986. The merger was a result of the independent bailouts of both companies and the subsequent Federal Trade Commission blockage of a Dr Pepper merger with Coca-Cola.

Does 7up have fruit juice?

The company website notes that it contains no fruit juice. Westinghouse took over 7UP in 1969. It then was sold to Philip Morris in 1978, a marriage of soft drinks and tobacco. The investment firm Hicks & Haas bought it in 1986. 7UP merged with Dr. Pepper in 1988.
